Heterotrophic microalgae cultivation tests are being carried out with the wastewater from the agri-food company VIPI. A microalgal inoculum adapted to VIPI wastewater was used in order to compare the efficacy of the treatment with the previously used non-adapted inoculum. The harvested algal biomass is being analysed for its carbohydrate and fat content properties.

The Slovenian demonstration centre has been operational during the summer and will continue during the autumn. Five successful reactor tests were carried out in August and September, treating wastewater from different fruit juices and with different nutrient loads. The operating protocol of the demonstration plant was optimised to ensure the best nutrient uptake and biomass production.
